Ruben Louis Santiago, age 38, was arrested in connection with a shooting that happened at a Sleepy Hollow residence on Tuesday, Jan. 2, Sleepy Hollow Police announced on Wednesday, Jan 3.
According to the department, around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sleep Hollow Police officers responded to a residence on Chestnut Street in the area of Valley Street and found a 37-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her hand and upper body. She was taken to a local hospital, where she is now in stable condition.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Santiago was identified as a suspect and was believed to have fled in a taxi cab to the Bronx. Members of the Sleepy Hollow Police Department, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, and the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force then responded to the Bronx to try and find him.
Eventually, investigators determined an address of interest and were able to take Santiago into custody without incident. Police also recovered a firearm at the same time, according to authorities.
Investigators also learned that Santiago was a person of interest in a shooting that happened in the Bronx earlier in the day, according to the department.
After his arrest, Santiago was taken back to Sleepy Hollow and was remanded to Westchester County Jail pending his arrangement in court on Monday, Jan. 22. The case will now be prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Anthony Bueti said that the incident was an isolated act of violence.
"I assure you there is no threat to the community or our schools," he said.
